ORDER OF WEDDING SERVICE

What follows is a typical order of a wedding service. Precious little must be done from a legal point of view. The requirements of the law are: a legal declaration by both groom and bride and the pronouncement of the marriage by the marriage officer.

BRIDAL PROCESSION
entrance of flower girl/s, page boy/s, bridesmaids, father & bride

WELCOME
celebrant welcomes guests & offers a brief introduction to the proceedings: ladies & gentlemen we have come together to join together this man & this woman in matrimony officiant reads a beautiful & inspirational paragraph or two on marriage
READING / SONG ITEM
(optional event)
someone might have a reading of sorts and or a song to sing

LEGAL DECLARATION
in keeping with the requirement of the law: celebrant asks: do you A declare that there is no lawful impediment to your proposed marriage with B here present and that you call on the persons here present to witness that you take her to be your lawfully wedded wife? response: “i do” (same for bride)

COVENANT ADDRESS
marriage has it’s roots and traditions in an ancient custom called covenant making. celebrant will speak for 3 or 4 minutes on the above

SHARING OF VOWS
groom & bride share their chosen or traditional vows.
normally repeated after celebrant

EXCHANGE OF RINGS
celebrant elaborates on the symbolism & significance of the rings. groom & bride repeat a short ring vow after the celebrant

LIGHTING OF UNITY CANDLE
(optional event)
groom & bride light two separate candles. they then together burn a larger free standing candle … symbolic of two becoming one

READING
(optional event)
same as above)

PRONOUNCEMENT
celebrant declares groom and bride to be lawfully married “you may kiss the bride

SIGNING OF THE REGISTER
groom & bride sign the marriage register with two witnesses

RECESSIONAL
groomsmen & bridesmaids link arms and exit followed by groom and bride
